IBM TRAVELER SERVERS IN HIGH AVAILABILITY
Long time ago businesses steped outside of standard office cubicles and needed workable replacement while on move. Portability of mobile devices was primary requirement as they had to be carried on all day long and beyond. IBM Traveler server was a native solution for IBM Notes mail users, very practical and reliable at the same time allowing a standard inexpensive MDM solution.

The Challenge
Boom of Smart phones and modern tables allowing mobile work while on move required new MDM approach and that was exactly what moder business was looking for. Either this was AIB or IPS or DoJE or any other agency or business, the solution and challenges were the same. Moving away from previous BlackBerry MDM solution and devices and replacing with newest iPhone, iPads, Android or Windows devices. As the data was brought outside of (fire)wall secured environments, it required different approach of securying it. IBM Traveler servers were just launched and though features were evolving each day, it did require additional solution for robuts controls of access and mobile device management.
The Solution
Placing IBM Traveler servers in own Domino environment, setting them in High Availability between data centres for seamless redundancy, securing and locking the solution within existing Notes environment. As two organisations were closely bound, solution should allow sharing IBM Traveler environment for both organisations ensuring that only necessary data is used/synced between respective Notes environments and allow seamless expansion for other agency or divions when needed, reducing the overall cost of the solution. To have better security and managebility of mobile devices, MobileIron MDM solution was integrated in the final solution, allowing additional data and mobile devices polilcing. The solution allowed BYOD as available feature. Migrate and replace existing BB users and devices with iPhone/iPad devices.
The Results
IBM Traveler servers installed in own Domino directory/environment protecting standard Notes data and users, in High Availability for automatic redundancy. Integrated with MobileIron for increased security and managebility. Mobile users upgraded with iPhone/iPad devices allowing to use them at any place and any time. Provided capability to expand mobile functionality beyond fetching only emails but accessing data within File shares.
